Well, in this short period of time, I attended two funerals, both within a week. One of my Grandaunt, the other, a friend from NPCC. Although I'm not close to both, my heart still wept silently for them. After all, they've come into my life and somehow touched me in one way or another. It is really interesting how human relationships work. Sometimes, it is not the amount of time spent with one another that matters, but it is how the bond forms and how the heart links. Rest in peace grandaunt Magdalene and friend Yuling.
Through the death of my grandaunt, I also got to know a whole new revelation about my family. I met up with my 2nd generation cousin the other day at Macs. We were just chit-chatting about how we should keep in contact, because if we don't, we might just lose touch forever. Then we started discussing about our Family Tree. To tell you the truth, the generation of my parents and grandparents are so complicated in terms of family relationships, so much so that both of us couldn't really figure out how we were really related. Well, you see, all I knew about that Grandaunt was that she was my Grandpa's sis. My cousin (whose grandma is that grandaunt) thought that my grandpa and his grandpa were brothers. Yet, his grandpa's surname was Ng, grandma (my grandaunt) was Chan and my grandpa is Lim. We could not see the relation at all. I had this strange feeling in my mind that maybe, just maybe, we were really not blood related.
I went home and plucked up my courage to ask about this situation. To my surprise, he told me that actually, my Grandpa was given to somebody else, and thus, we had to take his new parents' surname, which is Lim. So, my real real surname, is supposed to be Chan!!!! Gosh.... It was really such a revelation to me! And this is also the exact reason why my 1st generation cousins and my brother's name all have the word Chang or Chan! (If you guys know, my mum didn't want me to be named by my grandpa, as she claimed that all who were named by my grandpa are not that smart, thus I do not have Chan or Chang in my name) I guess History really has a lot of hidden secrets, waiting to be discovered (or not to be discovered).
My dad's cousin also has a pretty weird story about he and his wife, but I'll leave that for another time. Well, all I have to say is that there were too much giving out of babies in the past and too much adoptions here and there, causing the load of confusion here....
Back to the present, I have just started my Health Sciences Authority internship today. Not much today, just reading of a safety manual plus a safety talk which was super super funny! I laughed and smiled till my jaws ached! I am not too upset by the low pay (or stipend as they would like to call it), but I just hope that I can learn a lot a lot of things, just like what I did for my GIP in US. This also marks the first time I am working in a place which is related to my course, maybe the ONLY time.... I guess only time will tell.
Oh and when I just came back from work, the police sealed up the area under my block. Apparently, a maid fell from the 10th floor while cleaning the windows. I really pity them. They're just here to earn something for their family back home, but just because they're working hard, they pass on.... What's worse is that the maid just came to Singapore not long ago. My mum was taking letters from the letterbox when she heard a short scream and the loud 'bom' landing. Didn't dare to look out of the block while she was there.
Wow, the nights are really short when you are working in the day. Gotta treasure the rest of my time....
