THE 48-YEAR OLYMPIC MEDAL DROUGHT FOR SINGAPORE HAS FINALLY, FINALLY ENDED!

SINGAPORE TABLE TENNIS TEAM HAS GOTTEN INTO THE FINALS.

AT LEAST A SILVER MEDAL FOR SINGAPORE.

The match started at 2.30p.m. I was still in school and had just finished eating. I then met my friend Ann and we were going home. On the 179 bus, we say Feng Tianwei in the last part of the first match. She won 3-0. The second game started with Li Jiawei. Then we had to get down the bus.

I whipped out my handphone and we listened on radio the going-ons of the match. Disappointment filled us as Li started to lose to her arch-nemesis Kim Kyung Ah (Kim beat Li at the Athens 2004 Olympics in the bronze medal playoffs). When we reached our bus stop, we still continued listening to the last part of the second match, only to find out Li lost 9-11 to Kim.

At home, my dad wasn't watching the TV. He is always afraid to watch these kinds of matches. Both of us kept switching on and switching off the TV to see how was the progress. The doubles match did not disappoint. Li Jiawei and Wang Yuegu managed to beat the Korean doubles even though they practised together for one month. In fact, it was a surprise to the Koreans.

The on-off TV mode continued through round 4 where Wang was playing against Dang Yeseo. Wang lost 0-3 games to lose the match.

2-2 for Singapore and Korea. It would come down to the last last last game. I breathed hard and decided to watch the last match, while listening to Radio 1003 where they were commenting about the whole semi-finals. Feng Tianwei was up against Park Mi Young. Feng took the first 2 games but Park caught up for the next game. It was down to the fourth match once. Feng braced herself for the match of the life. It was really a cat and mouse fight. The scores came down to 8-8. Then, Feng took the next score 9-8. But it was 9-9 AGAIN!! But Feng had the fighting spirit and she took the next score. 10-9. AND ONE LAST POINT TO WIN IT ALL!! 11-9! WHAT A GAME!

My heart seriously stopped umpteen times. In fact, the team mates of both Feng and Park were over excited and they were sent off the match venue after red cards were issued separately by the umpire. First time I see red cards in a table tennis match. haha.

But it was a really really amazing and awesome match. Both Singapore and Korea put up a good fight. WAY TO GO SINGAPORE!! You guys have proved to be worthy of a medal and all your hard work have paid off. Li Jiawei, Wang Yuegu and Feng Tianwei rock on. Now, it is your time to shine! =)
